Juggle away to 2011!

Ever seen the juggling acrobat in a circus? Very often I feel like one.

Science daily says that multi-tasking skills should be my forte… but here I am struggling with the thoughts crowding my head as I go to bed tonight… Am trying to wear caps of the writer, filmmaker, homemaker, host, partner & business partner all at once… each of them fits ok but there is just one head 🙁

Eventually it will all fall into place as it usually does, but at such moments – when all the balls are high up in the air – one stares up at the sky and hopes for some miraculous energy!! Hoping to reach the right answers to the questions:  “Are two days enough to cut the film’s trailer? Where do I find Akashvani announcements from the 1970s to add to the sound mix? What should be breakfast for tomorrow? How should I shape the third character in the new draft of the script? Will the foreign DoP be able to give his interview as scheduled? When does the case get filed? Has the advance tax been sorted ?” etc etc etc

Am sure you know what I mean, after all, we have all been there at some point!

Like everyone else I was running on with all this unspooling through my head… When last week, an interviewer asked me with all seriousness “How do you cope with the stress of filmmaking… After all you’re a woman only?”

I sat there stunned – for a moment. Slowly realised that in this day and age, the dark ages do exist. Then asked him to turn off his recorder. What followed was an explanation of some facts of life. I dont know if it changed his perspective, but somewhere within I heard a soft voice – perhaps I am running on BECAUSE I am a woman!

Happy New Year everyone and happy juggling in 2011! A special thank you to all those who visited the blog this year.

🙂

The adult human brain weighs 1.5 KG with a size of 1130 cubic centimetres in women and 1260 in men, although there is substantial individual variation.

    Good Job Ladies !!! 🙂

Guys, realize the power of extra 130 we’ve got and start multitasking !!! Let’s beat them 😉

Yes.. You could, because you are a WOMAN!…

But still I guess a person like you need to have an assistant so that you can focus and prioritize a few of the tasks which needs more of your touch…

Wishing you a fantabulous New Year too!!!…

Sorry maam, it would take a few more generations in India for us to start accepting Woman as equal to Man. And specifically for Kerala our men are so machis that we might need a couple more generations to change.
Was that journalist a Malayaalee, I wont be surprised.
My sorry, is basically to all Indian women from an Indian who is genuinely sad about the state of our women.

    mam
May be you are right because only few ladies are there in the career of world’s strongest media films. And most of the woman film makers have made memorable mark of their films.
Hope you can do more and good films the coming year.:)

nice read ma’am 😉 i guess you should take it as a credit that he finds it amazing that a woman can do so much, considering the fact that a woman is most often burdened with much more social responsibilities, which most men find grossly inconsequential, but are in fact of paramount importance. He acknowledges it 😉 just another perception of a probably glaring gender biased attitude 😉

    Anjali,

I aspire for a balanced world, a balanceed country, a balanced society and balanced individuals. These aspirations are basically founded on the principle of ‘complete’ equality between various diversities, including women and men.

Long time back I thought educations is a fundamental and basic requirement to self-propagate such aspirations, but I now believe this may not be so. There are too many strings which pull individuals, societies, countries and this world we live in, and many of them so dynamic that we human beings do not carry enough foresight to contemplate them coming in the future.

Yet, I aspire for a balance. Particularly in our very own country. As a man, I have lots to deliver to meet this challenge. And every man in this country needs to think similarly on this count. A society which cannot respect it’s women folk cannot achieve anything. PERIOD.

I am running on BECAUSE I am a woman!
    kalakki..kaliakki..double kalakki.. 🙂

  • Jithin Hoseph January 6, 20114:22 pm

it is the passion not the gender qualities that make you achieve things which seems impossible in the first sense…do not round up your thinking by taking as a woman’s perseverance only, but consider it as a passionate dedicated person’s empirical day life examples…i think its good living a life than proving that i lived a life…

You are simply awesome in your work..And im really proud that there are filmmakers like you in Malayalam who has got the real guts to show what you strongly believe in your movies..I just wanted to put a thread of a story for you..in fact i do not have any story in it..Me and bro was simply browsing through these Matrimonial websites..Its so pissing off to see peoples’ demands and glorified description of their material needs in a marriage..I personally feel this kind of platform works like a product sales analysis that i do at my work..You analyze the potentiality of a product becoming successful..you do STP for it..market it well..then match the supply…that’s what happens in these matrimonial websites…if you get a chance, just explore a little over this..there are a lot of funny things that might inspire you to work on a satire..like Srinivasan or Renjith does…recently we saw an option which says “pay 5k, you will get a personal detective to dig out all the details of bride or bridegroom..so sick isn’t it..?? Im just looking for an awareness through a film as it does influence people these days..Anyway good luck for your projects..

  • Jithin Hoseph January 7, 20119:12 am

i can understand that…and to a great extend that reactions can be justified also..because our society is not all balanced in the pattern of treatment they structured for men and women…but one i think i want to point out here is, what we want is a mental revolution not just a mockery of changing laws on women rights and considering and reconsidering reservation bills in a satirical platform. The attitude and the so called prejudice is one which needs immediate change..even women underestimate their chances..life is not to just trade your vulnerabilities..it is an attempt to be strong…once the attitude initiates a change among the mass, the system proceeds the change…and like that without mimicking the westerners, we will have more acceptable societal norms and a system which makes the critics silent…i think im working on a dream…:)

    • Athira JC June 25, 20146:49 am

HeyJithin….such refreshing and progressive thoughts…i was just saying the exact line yesterday (attitude initiates….system proceeds) with a friend over a convo bat ‘How old are you’….we should clone more of ur
      tribe bro….gb

      • Jithin Joseph June 29, 20145:12 pm

Thank you so much Athira for your kind words..Great to see that there are people around who walk on the same thread of line..!!! Lets ponder together…
